Churchill Academy & Sixth Form

Special Educational Needs

At Churchill Academy & Sixth Form we believe there are no limits on what we can achieve. We have high expectations of all our students, regardless of disability, additional or special educational need, and we help and support them to achieve the very best they can.

To assist our students in achieving these high expectations we have a very experienced team, led by our Special Educational Needs Coordinator, Mrs Nicky Moon

Teaching Assistants

Access to the curriculum for all students, particularly the most vulnerable, is very important to us so we have a team of Teaching Assistants who work within faculties; planning and differentiating work for pupils to ensure they achieve as much as possible and can also learn independently.

Literacy Skills Development

Part of our work is to improve literacy skills across the Academy through teaching and modelling of literacy in all subjects. However, students with very weak literacy skills are withdrawn in years 7 and 8 and follow a highly structured literacy programme to develop their skills further.
