Churchill at 60
We are delighted to announce that we will be holding a Gala Evening in celebration of our 60th Year on the 23rd September.
Tickets are available to purchase for the evening for £35.50, which will include a welcome drink, generously donated by our neighbours, Thatchers, before the opportunity to look around the school site. Our in-house caterers, Chartwells, will be preparing a three course sit down meal with local produce from Lye Cross Farm and Cossy's. This will be followed by entertainment from some of our fabulous in-house choirs, bands and performers in a showcase of Churchill through the ages.
We hope that you'll join us for this special occasion.
“We have a series of events planned to mark Churchill’s diamond jubilee, including charity events and activities planned within our lessons. These will culminate in a gala dinner in September, celebrating Churchill through the ages, to mark the anniversary of the school’s official opening ceremony.
This outstanding school has always had a reputation for great education. Thousands of students have passed through the doors since the school first opened, and Churchill will be asking alumni to get in touch to help celebrate during this landmark year,” said Chris Hildrew, Head Teacher.
The school has undergone some structural changes over the sixty years, including the addition of the Performing Arts block when the school was awarded Performing Arts status. More recently, the refurbishment of the hall and gym after the school gained Academy status, and the new Business and IT block that is currently under construction.
Below are a series of pictures from the School Log Book, recording the first day at the new school on January 14th, 1957, along with some photographs from our archive.
