Application Process

Application

All applicants must complete our application form to ensure that are treated equally and fairly. Please ensure that you complete the application form as fully as possible, and provide all the information you feel is relevant to the job description and person specification for the role.  Shortlisting decisions will be made based on the information you provide in the application form.

Where possible, we ask that applicants apply online via Eteach, however if you need our application pack in a different format, please email recruitment@churchill-academy.org

Eligibility to work in the UK

You must have, or be able to obtain before you start employment with us,  permission to work in the UK. Further information can be found on the UK Border Agency website http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk

Canvassing and relationships

We ask for information regarding these so that we can adapt our recruitment and employment processes if required e.g. if you are related to or have a relationship (personal, financial or professional) with a governor, proposed interview panelist and/or academy leader.

Criminal convictions

You have the opportunity to disclose any previous, pending or outstanding convictions as part of the recruitment and pre-employment processes. Prior to you being offered a formal contract of employment we will ask you to complete a self-disclosure document and online enhanced DBS check which will be reviewed by the HR Manager. If there are disclosures and those require further explanation the Academy will organise a meeting to discuss them. The outcome of this meeting may affect any recruitment decision.

Please note that if you have a criminal record, you are required to tell us about all ‘spent’ and ‘unspent’ cautions and convictions.  We ask that you also tell us about any police reprimands/cautions/warnings that may be revealed by the request of an enhanced disclosure from the DBS. 

References

We will obtain references for all shortlisted applicants using our own standard reference form. All offers of employment are made subject to the receipt of two references which we regard as satisfactory.

We use a standard reference form and this reference will include requesting information about past or present disciplinary issues relating to  vulnerable groups (including any in which the time penalty is ‘time expired’) and whether you have been subject to any child/vulnerable adult protection concerns and the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

Shortlisting

Our selection process is based on each individual’s own merits and abilities. The information provided in your application is evidence and used against the essential and desirable criteria required for the post. Interviews

If you are selected for interview, the HR department will contact you with the details of the interview and explain what you need to bring. Our selection processes normally consist of a full interview programme of a half to full day duration and usually involves: a tour of the Academy with student ambassadors; an opportunity to meet some staff and students; a formal interview; a safeguarding task; and a written/practical/skills exercise.
