About our School
Churchill Academy & Sixth Form lies at the western end of the village of Churchill, just off the A38, about 13 miles south-west of the City of Bristol.
The Academy is on the borders of North Somerset and Somerset, in rural surroundings in the lee of the Mendip Hills surrounded by wooded slopes and open countryside. The Academy serves a number of large villages set around Churchill including Wrington, Banwell, Congresbury, Sandford, Winscombe, Blagdon, Burrington, Redhill and Langford, but we also attract students from Weston-super-Mare, Hutton, Locking, Yatton, Shipham and some areas of Somerset which are geographically very close.
The school took its first intake of students in January 1957, before its official opening as Churchill Secondary Modern School on Friday, 20 September 1957. In 1969, the school became a comprehensive. In 1996, it became Churchill Community School, before adopting foundation status in 2007 as Churchill Community Foundation School and Sixth Form Centre. The school became an academy on 1 August 2011 as Churchill Academy & Sixth Form, and joined the Lighthouse Schools Partnership multi-academy trust on 1st April 2023.
