  • Friday 17 November 2023 Students excel at The Great Debate! The Great Debate is a national public speaking competition for 14-18 year olds, run by the Historical Association. This year, two students in Year 12 took up the challenge. Ellie and Lily were tasked with speaking for 5 minutes on the question 'Which historical place or person from your local area deserves greater recognition?'

  • Friday 20 October 2023 The winner of the Junior Young Musician of the Year 2023 is... On Thursday evening, the final of the Junior Young Musician of the Year 2023 took place which provided an entertaining evening of music for all tastes, ranging from classic songs such as Johann Strauss' The Blue Danube to Coldplay’s A Sky Full of Stars.

  • Friday 20 October 2023 Music Workshop Review: Sveta & Slava - Cello & Piano Duo The young, award-winning Russian-Ukrainian duo, Cellist Svetlana Mochalova and pianist Slava Sidorenko, who have won multiple awards and performed at venues including the Purcell Room, the Barbican, Wigmore Hall and Glastonbury, brought a feast of music and a moment of pure aspiration to some of the students at Churchill Academy and Sixth Form on Friday 6th October.

  • Friday 13 October 2023 Future Chef Competition 2023 Twelve students turned up the heat on Tuesday 10th October, creating a dinner for two with a budget of just £5. Given one hour to prepare and cook their meals, the aspiring chefs all did an outstanding job. Families had the opportunity to support their children as they demonstrated their abilities. Mrs. McKay, Mrs. North, and Mr. Redman, our tasters and judges, took their time selecting the top dishes. The following criteria was used to grade the students' work: workmanship, skills, composition, flavour and taste, creativity, and presentation.

  • Friday 6 October 2023 Rotary Avon Young Musician Award Are you a classically trained musician? The Rotary Avon Young Musician Award competition, run by eight Rotary Clubs from the former UK County of Avon and the surrounding area, is open to instrument or voice students aged 13 to 17 who can offer a predominantly classical music programme at ABRSM Grade 7 level or higher. Heats take place in Bristol in November, with a Final in late January.
  • Friday 6 October 2023 Auditions for Somerset County Music Groups Somerset County Youth Orchestra (SCYO) & Somerset County Youth Concert Band (SCYCB) are holding auditions for string, woodwind, brass and percussion players who are Grade 5 standard and above.
  • Friday 29 September 2023 Self-Declaration deadline approaches for Pupil Premium For students who are adopted or from families who are armed forces personnel, there are additional funding options available. The deadline to apply for the funding is Monday 2nd October.
