A Level Results 2017

Students from Churchill Academy and Sixth Form are celebrating excellent results in the new-style A-levels. 23% of grades were A*-A, whilst three-quarters of the grades awarded were A*-C. 92% of our university applicants have secured their place at university. These results reflect the determined and consistent effort of Churchill students throughout their time in the Sixth Form.

Greta Guccione achieved three straight A* grades, successfully gaining a place at Liverpool University to study Veterinary Science, whilst Tianxi Arlotte’s A*A*A secured her place at St Peter’s college,  Oxford to read Mathematics. Sophie John, who is the third generation of her family to attend Churchill, has been accepted at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, to study Geography after achieving A*AA in her A-levels.

Sophie commented after receiving her results, “I’m really happy. I want to go on to Environmental law so this is the first step to that goal. I’m going to miss Churchill and my friends as well as the support from my teachers.”

A further eight students achieved three or more top grades, bringing the total to eleven with straight A, A* or starred Distinctions. Congratulations to Caelen Daynes, Georgia Harding, Tom Johnson, Lizzie Lomax, Ellena Moore, Stephen Sweeting, and Marilla Willmot, whose destinations include the universities of Nottingham, Exeter, and Bristol to read (amongst others) Mathematics, Chemistry and Photography.

“I’m over the moon,” said Stephen Sweeting. “I’m going to do a Masters in Chemistry at Bristol. It was the Access to Bristol course that showed me what I wanted to do, and I’m so happy to be able to attend.”

Headteacher, Chris Hildrew, said “our students should feel immensely proud of their results. All the hard work and commitment towards their study through their time at Churchill has been justly rewarded.  They have overcome the challenges they have faced and shown real grit and determination to succeed, whilst enjoying themselves along the way. I wish them every success as they take their next steps beyond the Academy.”

Students particularly excelled in Mathematics, with 60% of grades in Maths being A or A*. Churchill’s continued commitment to practical and creative subjects saw students achieve A* grades in Photography, Product Design, and Fine Art A-levels, whilst the stellar Performing Arts BTEC group achieved 12 starred Distinctions. “It’s great to see the efforts of our students recognised in this way. The fact that our young people are excelling in traditional academic subjects like Maths alongside creative and applied courses shows that Churchill Academy & Sixth Form is delivering results across a broad and balanced range of subjects, something that Churchill is passionate about.”

85% of our students gained their first choice university place, with 26% of those at Russell Group Universities. Churchill’s overall pass rate is 98%.
