Churchill Retain Chess Championship

On Sunday 3rd July Churchill Academy played host to the North Somerset School’s Chess Championships.  The tournament involved secondary and primary schools playing a very demanding six rounds of chess.  More than 70 students from North Somerset schools attended.

In the secondary competition the depth and strength of Churchill Chess was clearly evident with Churchill A winning all games with a near 100% record and Churchill B gaining a well-deserved second place. Hans Price came third and Backwell came fourth. The victorious Churchill squad included Henry Cole, John Skeen, Ben Webber, Max Walker, Alex Webber, Luke Curran, Will Honour, Josh Perry and Harrison Silver. Brenton Allen and George Skeen also played.

In the Primary Open event Blagdon A retained their title beating Ashcombe, Wrington A and St Josephs A. In the new Challenger event, aimed at developing players, Wrington B just beat St Josephs B to the title, closely followed by Blagdon B and St Josephs C.

Thanks to all concerned for putting on this excellent event.
