Rugby
Backwell 15 - Churchill 25
We had an excellent win with the Year 8 Rugby team on Tuesday, 3rd October, against Backwell away from home. The team managed to produce a scintillating display of running rugby in a 25-15 win, with Drew Gwilliam and Stan Irving on the scoreboard with three and two tries respectively. There were lots of standout performances, in particular Player's Player of the Game Hugo Brown whose breakdown play was exceptional and Joe Palmer as Coach's Player of the Game. Joe captained the side and worked alongside his teammates to identify attacking threats and nullify them in the second half. The game started positively for Churchill, running in three unanswered tries in the first 20 minutes, before a hat trick was scored by a Backwell centre before the half-time whistle. The Churchill side were not disheartened by this and were able to regain their lead with two tries in the second half and most importantly, stopped Backwell from scoring again in the game. Well done lads!
