Food Works with the Princess Royal

On Friday 22nd October, Year 13 students Amelie and Alyssa joined Food Science & Technology teacher Ms Coman and Headteacher Mr Hildrew at the official opening of Food Works South West in Weston-super-Mare with guest of honour, Princess Anne the Princess Royal.

Food Works South West is a food and drink innovation centre offering food-grade business units, product development facilities and a business engagement centre to help the food industry across the region. As one of the only local schools offering a post-16 food science and nutrition course, Churchill has worked closely with Food Works to provide opportunities for our students to use industry-standard equipment and learn about the food industry.

Amelie and Alyssa both plan to go on to study food and nutrition related courses at University, and discussed their plans with the Princess as well as meeting local business representatives and sampling their products. We plan to continue our close relationship with Food Works South West as our students were keen to try out the 3D chocolate printer as well as the pizza ovens and dough-rolling equipment in the bakery development kitchen!

Headteacher, Mr Hildrew, said: "what a great way to start the half term: sampling great food in wonderful local facilities with fantastic opportunities for our students to learn more about his vital industry. It was an honour for us to be invited to meet Princess Anne, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Food Works South West."
