No Power Hour
On 6th April the Sixth Form completed a 'No Power Hour' in the Sixth Form centre. At two o'clock the students and staff switched off all the lights, projectors, computers and anything which used power which was not essential to the running of the building, to raise awareness of the environmental impact of power usage.
The graph above shows the energy consumption for the 5th April (blue line) and 6th of April (orange line). You can see how, in the period from 2pm onwards, the Sixth Form used much less electricity than the previous day. Overall the 6th April used 7kWh less electricity than the previous day and taking the two hours from 2pm to 4pm the consumption was 55.02% lower during this time on the 6th April than on the previous day.
A huge thank you to all of you for taking part! We can clearly show that with something so simple as turning off lights and not relying on using electronic devices, that we have a huge impact on reducing our energy consumption, limiting the environmental impact and reducing our costs as a school. We are now considering a whole school "no power hour" to see if we can make an even bigger difference!
Thanks to the Sixth Form Green Team for their continued efforts to ensure that the Academy operates in as environmentally-friendly a way as possible.
