Organ Donation Information
This week as part of the Sixth Form specialist tutor programme, students in Year 12 had a presentation about organ dontation from the Bristol Royal Infirmary’s organ donation team and Vicki Caldwell, mum of Fiona Braidwood.
Fiona, who sadly died in a car accident in March 2016 whilst preparing for her A-levels in Year 13 at Churchill, was a member of the organ donation register. Fi’s strong opinions on organ donation were formed from PSHE days when she was younger, her opinions were clearly shared with her family and her wishes to be a donor were very clear. Fiona helped to save or transform the lives of four people through her gift of multiple organ donation. As a result, she was awarded the St John United Kingdom Award for Organ Donation. Mrs Caldwell proudly showed the medal to our students as part of the session.
Year 12 heard a message that helped them to think about their own views and encouraged them to share their views with loved ones. Her decisions have made such a significant difference to other people’s lives that she is now remembered with a display at Southmead Hospital that tells her story.
