Swimming Success

The Churchill Academy & Sixth Form Intermediate Girls' Swimming Team continued their excellent season at the weekend at the national finals of the English Schools Swimming Association's 61st Secondary Schools Team Championship. The finals were held at the London Aquatic Centre - the home of swimming at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Our team - Caitlin Ashurst, Isobel Gray, Bethan Anderson and Amelia Morris - competed in the 4x50m freestyle and the 4x50m medley. In the freestyle they finished the heats in 11th place, although their time would have placed them 8th in the final. In the medley, however, the girls made the final and came 9th overall in England, in a time of 2:11.34. Churchill was the only comprehensive state school to make it into the final race, making the achievement all the more remarkable.

Many congratulations to the girls on their well-deserved success!
