Variety Show Finale for Year 13
This year's departing Year 13 Performing Arts group, in the form of their production company "Breaking Mad," marked the end of their time at Churchill with a triumphant variety show at Howards Citroen in Weston-super-Mare on Friday evening.
The event was planned and produced by the students themselves, from the venue hire, ticketing, lighting and sound design, costume, rehearsal and choreography, to the delicious catering provided by Zeera Indian Restaurant. They assembled a fantastically varied programme for the sold-out audience, mixing musical theatre with sketch comedy, contemporary dance and acoustic songs. Nobody who was there will forget the ballet performance from Swan Lake, expertly danced by Ed Boulton and Archie Freeman, who were later joined by the Boys of Breaking Mad for an equally striking interpretation of the Cell Block Tango from Chicago. The audience were enraptured!
The Year 12 production company - "Formation" - also provided two preview songs from their forthcoming show Beauty and the Beast which will be performed at the Academy on 22nd June. If these previews are anything to go by, it should be quite an event!
The Variety Show was a fitting finale for this group of students who have brought so much to the performing arts at Churchill in their time with us. On tonight's evidence, they certainly have a bright future ahead of them!
