Weston Junior Arts Festival

Students from the Academy have been successful in the Weston Junior Arts Festival.

Flautists, coached by Diane Parfitt, took part in both solo and ensemble classes with Martha Withers (Year 7) winning her class for the 11 and under Flute Solo, and also the prestigious Junior Wind prize. Martha was also invited to play at the Winner’s Concert last Sunday.

Further success for our older flautists saw Katja Heyken (Year 10) winning the under 18 duet class and the Flutella Quintet won the small ensemble class whilst Flutella came second in the large ensemble class. Elizabeth Glen’s singing students did a fantastic job in the vocal classes with first prizes for George Derry (Year 11), Jennie Higgins, (Year 12), Charlotte Eyres (Year 12), Molly Sprouting (Year 11) and Molly Johnson (Year 10).  Coming second in their class were Rachel Bowman (Year 11) and Christian Southway (Year 10), with Catherine Hurcombe (Year 9) receiving third place in the vocal solo (own choice) class.

Daniel Winterton in Year 7 (taught by Stuart Phippen) won the Junior Piano Class and joins Martha Withers in being a trophy holder.

We are also delighted to report that Ella Hutchinson in Year 9 was also awarded  four first and three second places in her chosen classes and Max Hutchison, Year 7, won the under 18 Brass Recital.

Many congratulations to everyone; wonderful achievements.
