Year 11 Somerset Cup
Year 11 Cup Success
On Thursday afternoon, Churchill Academy hosted Wellsway School in the first round of the Somerset Football Cup. The game was a real test of character for all involved going down by two goals in the first ten minutes. Goals by James Morris and a thunderbolt strike from Will Pearce brought the game back to evens, only to concede again moments later, 2-3 into half time. Toby Young then leapt above all others to score a great headed goal at the start of the second half, followed by goals from James Morris and Pete Johnson to take a comfortable lead 5-3 into the last ten minutes of the game. If that wasn't dramatic enough, two late goals by Wellsway took the game into extra time, and eventually into penalties. Goals from James Morris, Ryan Jones, Archie Heal, a great save from keeper Charles Lovell meant Harrison Stevens needed to keep his cool to win the game for Churchill. No dramas there, nicely placed into the bottom corner to take us into the next round. Inspirational performance from man of the match Ryan Jones, and well done to debutant Alfie Smith. Norton Hill or Nailsea School await in the next round after Christmas. #Determination
