Year 13 Students' Lighting Project

Students work with John Penrose MP to deliver imaginative lighting project

Year 13 Design students kicked off their final coursework by meeting John Penrose MP for Weston to discuss designs for lights that incorporate imagery to celebrate Sir Winston Churchill and Churchill Academy’s 60^th birthday in 2017.
 
Mark Barham, Leader of Learning for Technology, said “As part of the A Level coursework for Resistant Materials and Graphic Products, students have to work to a full client brief, ensuring their designs meet the specifications set out to them.  We approached John this year as we were keen to work with somebody with a unique link to both Sir Winston Churchill and our Academy and we are thrilled that he can support us.”
 
The Design students have been asked to create mood lights for display at the Academy and at The Houses Of Parliament.  The students have benefited from having interaction with a real client at this stage of the project, with John's feedback shaping the final products presented.
 
John Penrose said: “Churchill said great art should be a combination of tradition and innovation. I’m sure these talented, enthusiastic local students will come up with something the great man would approve of. I, for one, can’t wait to see the finished item!”
