Year 7 Rugby

Churchill Academy & North Somerset Year 7 Rugby and Festival News

We've had a super bunch of young rugby players training week-in and week-out over Terms 1 & 2. The numbers at training have grown over the weeks, as players caught 'wind' of the success of the squad and the dedication to training.  The boys all played their part in wins prior to the tournament against:

• Backwell 20-15
• Worle 25-20
• Broadoak 30-10

I had the extremely difficult job of then selecting 16 players to represent the Academy at the North Somerset Year 7 Rugby Festival and congratulate those that were selected:  Tom Latham, Fin Hay, Bruce Butson, Owen Griffith, Harry Collard, Tom Collard, Joachim Hullah, Harry Keyte, Jerome Dewey, Alfie Bolger, Will Greatorex, Jacob Kelly, Ben Osmand, Aiden Westhoff, Michael Simson and Tristan Soper.

On a blustery cold day at Gordano RFC the squad did themselves proud; their discipline and conduct to-a-man was exceptional. Coupled with this was the performances to match. 

• 30-0 win V Priory
• 10-10 V Gordano
• 15-0 win V Clevedon
• 0-10 loss V Worle

The quality of their play got better and better throughout and resulted in the boys gaining a third place position overall.

Although I had to take 16 players, I'd like to thank all the squad for training and then playing in the matches in the build-up to the tournament - it's been a real treat to coach an enthusiastic and motivated group of young gentlemen over the last two terms. Please make sure you all continue to train and play in Year 8.
