Students dance the night away at the North Somerset Dance Festival

On Wednesday evening a select group of our dancers performed at the Weston Playhouse Theatre as part of the North Somerset Dance Festival. The annual Dance Festival aims to celebrate dance in both primary and secondary schools in the local area.
This is our first year taking part in the event and we were lucky enough to enter two dance groups. Our first dance was linked to the theme of United by Dance in celebration of the Dance Festival's 20th Anniversary. We looked at two issues young people face today – the use of technology, social media and gangs- and created a piece to show how we can all work together in unison by breaking down barriers.
The second piece was an excerpt from our upcoming Dance Live entry. Dance Live is a national dance competition and next week over 50 students will be travelling to High Wycombe to represent Churchill Academy & Sixth Form. Our piece, ‘Let Her Speak’ is inspired by mankind’s relationship with Mother Nature.
We are so proud of all the dancers involved; they worked so hard in rehearsals and it definitely paid off after their brilliant performance!
