Churchill Academy & Sixth Form have a wide variety of extra-curricular activities for all years to get involved with. Students are advised to check the video screens around the Academy and watch for Daily Notices provided by tutors. Age of entrants
- Bronze Award - Students in Year 9 and 10
- Silver Award - Students in Year 10 and 11
- Gold Award - Sixth Form
By doing your DofE, you're in for an amazing adventure and masses of fun as you take part in a range of activities, all leading to the achievement of an Award that's recognised by unis and employers alike.
Sections
You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you're going for Gold) - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a Residential. You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter,developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only).
It is up to students to choose what to do for their Volunteering, Physical and Skills sections but the Expedition is run through the school. All students walk with a rucksack carrying all of their provisions in teams of 4 - 7. There are two expeditions at all levels, a practice expedition and a qualifying assessed expedition. The duration of the expedition changes depending on the award level:
- Bronze - 2 days & 1 night (6 hours of walking per day) - Quantocks & Mendips
- Silver - 3 days & 2 nights (7 hours of walking per day) - New Forest & Exmoor
- Gold - 4 days & 3 nights (8 hours of walking per day) - Snowdonia & Lake District
