Karolos Music Workshop for Year 7s

Two members of the Karolos Ensemble presented an engaging workshop for our Year 7 students and led an informative masterclass for some of our string and guitar students.

Craig Ogden, the most sought-after guitarist for chamber music in the UK, and Harriet Mackenzie, an internationally renowned concerto soloist who has performed across five continents, enriched our musical understanding of the violin and classical guitar.

In these sessions of pure aspiration for our students, we were captivated by their exquisite playing, technical skill and communication with us – these instruments were played in ways that we can only dream of!

The masterclass in front of an attentive audience of music students from across the Academy, contained performances from three of our students, two guitarists and a violinist. These students performed brilliantly and were very receptive to constructive comments and advice about their playing. Each performer was able to enhance their interpretations of the music performed and allow their own personality and flair as a performer to shine through. Congratulations to Xavier Keirle, Milly Capes and Molly Blundell, our masterclass performers, for their superb playing.

The whole Karolos ensemble complete their visit to Churchill tomorrow evening with a performance a concert in All Saints Church, Wrington, at 7:30pm. Karolos brings together internationally acclaimed soloists in a unique chamber music group. The ensemble is committed to seeking out new repertoire as well as performing works from the canon.  They will perform an exciting, varied programme including gems such as their own arrangement of Vivaldi’s Guitar Concerto and tangos by the Argentinian composer Piazzola.

"Expressive…. Brilliant…. Virtuosic”  (The Observer) “Karolos are a dynamic, virtuoso chamber collective of first-rate players” (Gramophone)
