Churchill Academy & Sixth Form

Churchill is a parent-friendly school

ParentKind, the national charity for parents, has officially accredited Churchill Academy & Sixth Form as a parent-friendly school!

We know that the key to unlocking the power of parent participation is removing the barriers that prevent it. ParentKind asked 5,500 schools and 5,500 parents about their views of parent participation and the evidence was clear: the will is there, with 85% of teachers agreeing that parental engagement in school life has benefits and 90% of parents wanting to be more involved in their child’s school.

Here at Churchill, we are determined to help parents continue to engage positively in school life in support of their children's education. Our partnership with ParentKind is essential to unlocking that partnership.

The first step was an assessment of our current practice across the Parent-friendly Schools Framework. The framework includes five key Drivers:

  • Driver 1: leadership, ethos and resources
  • Driver 2: two-way communication
  • Driver 3: home-based learning
  • Driver 4: involvement in school life
  • Drive 5: community engagement

Our practice was scored across 25 separate initiatives, using 325 parent participation measures, to secure accreditation as a "Parent-friendly school." The Academy will now use the framework to develop and improve our provision over the coming year.

Chris Hildrew, Headteacher, commented: "We know the importance of partnership working with our parent community, and we are determined to strengthen and develop that partnership at Churchill. Working with ParentKind gives us the structure, tools, and research-backed insights to help us improve what we already do, and make the most of the benefits of the home-school partnership."

Jason Elsom, Chief Executive Officer at ParentKind, commented: "The sheer power of parent participation on a child's education continues to astound me. Schools like Churchill Academy & Sixth Form are on the journey to further partner with parents to reach amazing heights."
