Students engage in a masterclass from Atéa Wind Quintet
Brimming with energy and inspiration, the internationally acclaimed Atéa Quintet presented an engaging workshop for our Year 8 students and lead a masterclass for some of our wind players showcasing the rich and varied sound palette of the clarinet, oboe and bassoon.
The Atéa Quintet, which also includes flute and french horn, have already wowed audiences in some of the finest concert halls in the world - they came to us fresh from the Wigmore Hall!
Brought together by their communal love of wind chamber music, the Atéa have individually received several prizes in international competitions and played with all of the country’s leading orchestras. This was a moment of pure aspiration for our students.
Their enthusiasm immediately engaged Year 8 in a workshop containing numerous pieces of music for oboe, clarinet, bassoon and recorder as well as a taste of some of the many instrumental techniques that composers have written for on these instruments.
Our second session of the morning was a masterclass in front of an attentive audience of Music students from across the Academy. Several students performed in a masterclass, receiving constructive comments and advice about their playing. Each performer was able to enhance their interpretations of the music performed and allow their own personality and flair as a performer to shine through.
Congratulations to Max Taylor, Harry Tinker and Zander Wilson, our masterclass performers, for their superb playing.
The Atéa Quintet complete their visit to Churchill tomorrow evening performing a concert in All Saints Church, Wrington, at 7:30pm. Combining the elegance and charm of Mozart, the drama of Strauss and a touch of Gershwin jazz, this concert is sure to have something for all, alongside the opportunity to discover new composers introducing fresh and exciting styles, sounds and perspectives.
Tickets for under 18’s are just £1 - this is an amazing price to hear this outstanding ensemble perform, and on our doorsteps. I hope that as many of our students as possible will be able to attend this concert
Tickets: £10 with an Academy student (otherwise £19.50); £1.00 Under 18’s
