Year 11 students visit the Hydra Simulation Suite at Avon and Somerset Police HQ

This week, twelve of our Year 11 students took part in a training exercise in the Hydra Simulation Suite at Avon and Somerset Police H.Q.  This training suite is used by many organisations across the public services to test multi-agency partnerships and to develop problem-solving and decision-making skills.

The students received a briefing about a criminal incident and were sent into syndicate rooms in teams of three. Over an hour and a quarter, they were responsible for collecting intelligence, determining which hotel the criminal gang was hiding in, and managing a budget. Intelligence was passed to and from the informants via ‘live’ video link, phone calls and messages. The visit was a real success. All of the students showed excellent teamwork, problem-solving, communication and leadership skills.

There was one winning team that sent a response unit to the correct hotel, apprehended the fictional criminals, and had enough budget to cover the significant response required. Well done to Oshun, Jasmine and Daryna!

The day finished with an informative career talk from the police and fire brigade. A huge thank you to Avon and Somerset Police, Avon Fire and Rescue and to Ben from the Raising Aspirations program for organising such a brilliant experience for the students.
