Mr Hildrew goes to Buckingham Palace

Headteacher Mr Hildrew was honoured for his "outstanding contribution to education" with an invitation to a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace on Friday.

After a career of nearly thirty years in education, including ten as Headteacher of Churchill Academy & Sixth Form and four on the national executive committee of the Association of School and College Leaders, Mr Hildrew was delighted to receive the invitation from the Department for Education. He enjoyed the hospitality of Buckingham Palace alongside honoured guests from the armed forces, the civil service, the NHS, charities, uniformed services and public servants from across the British Isles and the commonwealth.

The Royal Garden Party was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Katherine, alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince Edward and Sophie. Two military bands entertained the guests as the sun shone on the assembled guests.

Mr Hildrew said: "It's a great honour to be recognised in this way, and I was humbled to be surrounded by such wonderful people who serve this country and its citizens with such dedication. It's been a privilege to have worked for nearly thirty years in the service of young people, and I look forward to the future with hope and optimism."
