  • Year 9 Impress with Delicious Calzones in Food Technology!

    This week, Year 9 students took their culinary skills to the next level during their Food Technology and Nutrition lessons by preparing calzones.

    From mixing dough to creating a variety of fillings, the students showcased creativity and technique, resulting in calzones that oozed deliciousness! Whether they opted for classic Italian-inspired fillings or experimented with their own combinations, the final results were truly impressive.

    Well done, Year 9—your calzones looked terrific, and we’re sure they tasted just as good!

  • Year 9 Options & Parents’ Evening – Thursday 23rd January

    We would like to invite Year 9 students and families to attend an in-person event at the Academy on Thursday 23rd January, from 4:00pm to 7:30pm, at the Academy.  

    The evening will comprise a number of different components designed to give you access to all of the information required to support discussions about options choices:

    • There will be an opportunity to hear from school leaders about the options process via talks taking place throughout the evening in the Academy Hall.

    • The subject fair will provide an opportunity to talk to individual subject teachers about the course content, assessment and opportunities available within each subject.  This will take place across Stuart and Lancaster buildings as well as in the Pool Hall.

    • There will also be subject based parents’ evening appointments where you can discuss your child’s progress with their subject teachers to support the options process.  

    To book your subject appointments, please use the SchoolCloud software.  You will be able to book online from 6.00pm on Monday 13th January.

  • Sponsor Our Incredible Talent in the KS3 Production of We Will Rock You!

    We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for the KS3 production of We Will Rock You, which is coming to the Academy from 15th–18th January 2025. 

    Parents now have the opportunity to sponsor the show! By sponsoring, you can write a short message that will be printed in our show programme. Your support will directly benefit the incredible students who have poured their hearts into making this production unforgettable.

    Donations can be made via ParentPay, with a minimum donation of £5. Messages should be no longer than (20/30 characters). All proceeds will be used to fund the performance.

  • Year 10 Students Participate in a Further Maths GCSE Day

    On Wednesday, 34 Year 10 students took part in a dedicated Further Maths GCSE Day at the Academy. The event was supported by visiting Maths students from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, as well as Year 12 and 13 students who volunteered their time to assist.

    The day offered Year 10 participants the opportunity to focus on Further Maths with expert guidance from teachers and older students. Many were inspired by the chance to learn about studying Maths at university, particularly at Oxford and Cambridge, and explored pathways to these prestigious institutions.

    A special thanks goes to the visiting university students, our sixth formers, and the hardworking Year 10 mathematicians for making the event a success.

  • Year 12 Student Creates Detailed 3D Model of Plasma Cell

    Year 12 biology student Ollie, has taken his A-Level studies to the next level by creating an incredibly detailed 3D model of a plasma cell. 

    Using his recent work on plasma cells as inspiration, Ollie designed the model to showcase the intricate structures of this essential component of the immune system. His impressive effort and attention to detail have been widely praised.

  • Team PE Celebrates "Student of Term 2" Awards

    As Term 2 drew to a close, Team PE came together in the Sports Centre to celebrate their “Student of the Term” awards. These awards recognised students who have demonstrated outstanding performances, a positive attitude, and determination in their PE lessons.

    The event highlighted the importance of effort, teamwork, and enthusiasm, and we hope that it will inspire all students to give their best in every PE session.

    Team PE is incredibly proud of the commitment and energy shown by every student at the Academy, and this celebration served as a well-deserved recognition of their hard work.

  • Sixth Form Hosts Academy Live Lounge: A Night of Talent and Fundraising

    Last week, the Sixth Form Ents and Events group hosted the Academy Live Lounge, an evening of live music to fundraise for the Year 13 ball and showcase the Academy’s incredible musical talent.

    The event featured performances from student bands, solo singers, and the Academy’s Soul Band, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

    Sixth Former James Hart, who organised the event, said:

    "Organising the Live Lounge was an amazing experience. Seeing my planning come to life and showcasing the incredible talent that doesn’t always get the spotlight was exciting. Knowing we raised money for the Year 13 ball made all the effort worth it. I’m really proud of how it turned out and I will do it again!"

  • Sixth Form Hosts Movie Afternoon and Pyjama Day for Charity

    On Wednesday, the Sixth Form Council organised a fun-filled movie afternoon and pyjama day. Students gathered to watch the festive film Nativity while enjoying snacks sold during the event.

    The fundraiser aimed to support the council’s chosen charity and contribute to the Sixth Form Ball. The event was a great success, combining festive cheer with community spirit for a good cause.

  • Year 12 Students make festive Brandy Snaps

    Year 12 Food and Nutrition students have been busy preparing for their upcoming mock Unit 1 exam this week. The class took on a festive challenge to showcase their skills: creating the classic Christmas treat, Brandy Snaps.

    The students worked diligently to perfect the delicate recipe, producing crisp and golden results that looked (and tasted) delicious. This practical session not only honed their culinary techniques but also brought a touch of seasonal cheer to the classroom.

    With their impressive efforts, the students are well on their way to success in their mock exams.

  • Year 7 Hanover Students Celebrate a Successful Start at the Academy

    This week, Mr Slater hosted a small celebration for all Year 7 Hanover students to reflect on their progress during their first two terms at the Academy.

    The event allowed students to share their experiences and celebrate their achievements. It was wonderful to see the students discussing their time at the Academy, highlighting their growth and enthusiasm for what’s to come in 2025.

    The celebration marked a positive and encouraging milestone for the Year 7 students as they continue to settle into secondary school life.

  • Xavier Wins the Aspens Catering Healthy Eating Competition

    In September 2024, Aspens Catering launched an exciting competition to encourage healthy eating among students, making nutritious choices both fun and rewarding. Students earned points automatically when purchasing food, with different healthy items carrying varying point values.

    The competition, which ran from September to November, has now come to an end, and the results are in! We are thrilled to announce that Xavier, Year 9, is the winner of the healthy eating competition.

    Xavier’s efforts have earned him an incredible grand prize: a brand-new mountain bike! The prize was presented to him this week by a member of the catering team.

    Aspen's Manager, Claire, praised all the student's effort, saying "It has been incredible to see everyone come together to eat healthier!"

  • Academy Christmas Charity Drive Brings Joy with Generous Donations and a Sweet Bake Sale

    The festive spirit is alive and well this Christmas season as our House Councils organised charity drives. With food bank donations, a bake sale, and incredible enthusiasm, the events highlighted the power of the Academy's community. 

    Lancaster House Hosts Bake Sale for Charity

    Lancaster House kicked things off with a fantastic bake sale, fully organised and run by the Student Council, under the leadership of the House Captains and Student Council Chair. The team’s organisation and enthusiasm shone through, as they curated an incredible selection of baked goods. Mrs Taylor, Head of Lancaster, said, "It was a lovely event for a well-deserved cause."

    The bake sale raised an impressive £97.70, which will go directly to Lancaster House’s chosen charity, Operations Community Hamper. This organisation supports vulnerable individuals and families, providing vital assistance to those facing challenging life circumstances.

    Windsor House Spreads Festive Joy with Food Bank Donations

    Windsor House made its mark by collecting donations for a local food bank, encouraging students to contribute and spread holiday cheer to families in need. The response was heartwarming, with generous contributions from Windsor students. The local food bank expressed gratitude for the support, and the Windsor House community showcased the true spirit of giving this Christmas.

    Stuart House Partners with Trussell Trust Foodbank

    Stuart House took on the Trussell Trust Foodbank in Weston-super-Mare as their chosen charity. Students were asked to bring in donations, with a little extra incentive: the tutor group that contributed the most would enjoy a celebration breakfast in the Green Room.

    The response was remarkable, with all tutor groups stepping up to the challenge and contributing an impressive amount of goods. Ultimately, SLA took the crown, earning a breakfast of croissants and hot chocolate for their efforts. Mrs Hayne commented, “All of Stuart House did a fantastic job, and we’re so proud of the impact we’ve made for the food bank. Thank you, Stuart House!”

    The Academy’s Christmas charity drive highlighted the kindness, generosity, and teamwork of students and staff. 

    A big thank you to Lancaster, Windsor, and Stuart Houses for embodying the holiday spirit and making this year’s charity drive a success!
